Christiana Figueres
Ms. Figueres is an internationally recognized leader on global climate change. She was Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 2010-2016. Assuming responsibility for the international climate change negotiations after the failed Copenhagen conference of 2009, she was determined to lead the process to a universally agreed regulatory framework. Building toward that goal, she directed the successful Conferences of the Parties in Cancun 2010, Durban 2011, Doha 2012, Warsaw 2013, and Lima 2014, and culminated her efforts in the historical Paris Agreement of 2015. Throughout her tenure Ms. Figueres brought together national and sub national governments, corporations and activists, financial institutions and communities of faith, think tanks and technology providers, NGOs and parliamentarians, to jointly deliver the unprecedented climate change agreement. For this achievement Ms. Figueres has been credited with forging a new brand of collaborative diplomacy.
She is currently the convener of Mission 2020, a global initiative that seeks to ensure the world bends the curve on greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 in order to protect the most vulnerable from the worst impacts of climate change and usher in an era of stability and prosperity.
Matt Rodriquez
Matt Rodriquez was appointed California Secretary for Environmental Protection by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in July 2011. As Secretary, Matt oversees the activities of the California Air Resources Board, the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, the Department of Toxic Substances Control, the Department of Pesticide Regulation, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment and the State Water Resources Control Board. As a member of the Governor’s cabinet, he advises the Governor on environmental policy.
He comes to the Agency with more than 24 years of environmental experience with the California Department of Justice where he served as a Deputy Attorney General from 1987 to 1999. In this capacity, he advised or represented the Attorney General and clients of the Land Law Section of the Attorney General’s Office. His clients included the California Coastal Commission, the State Lands Commission, and the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission. In 1999, he was appointed Senior Assistant Attorney General for the Land Law Section by Attorney General Bill Lockyer.
Daniel Kammen
Dr. Kammen is the Class of 1935 Distinguished Professor of Energy at the University of California, Berkeley, with parallel appointments in the Energy and Resources Group, the Goldman School of Public Policy, and the department of Nuclear Engineering. He was appointed the first Environment and Climate Partnership for the Americas (ECPA) Fellow by Secretary of State Hilary R. Clinton in April 2010.
Kammen is the founding director of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL), Co-Director of the Berkeley Institute of the Environment, and Director of the Transportation Sustainability Research Center. He has founded or is on the board of over 10 companies, and has served the State of California and US federal government in expert and advisory capacities.
Dr. Kammen has served as a contributing or coordinating lead author on various reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change since 1999. The IPCC shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He serves on the Advisory Committee for Energy & Environment for the X-Prize Foundation.
Jared Huffman
Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) was sworn in as a member of the 113th Congress on January 3, 2013 to represent California’s second district. The district spans from the Golden Gate Bridge north to the Oregon border, covering six counties including all of Marin, Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte, and much of Sonoma Counties.
Huffman is a member of the Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
Prior to his election to Congress in November of 2012, Huffman served six years in the California State Assembly where he authored more than 60 pieces of successful legislation and received numerous awards for his legislative leadership. Huffman chaired the Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee, served on the Budget Committee and was co-chair of the Legislative Environmental Caucus.
Damon Connolly
Sworn in January 2015 as Marin County Supervisor, Damon represents District 1 which includes San Rafael and its unincorporated neighborhoods. He is the Board’s President for 2018. He previously served on the San Rafael City Council where he helped expand transportation options for local residents, and worked to reduce San Rafael’s contribution to climate change. He also served on the
Dixie School Board. Damon was also a founding member of the MCE Clean Energy Board of Directors, and its Chair from 2011-14.
Damon is Marin County’s representative on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, sits on the SMART Board and chairs the Workforce Alliance of the North Bay. His Board of Supervisors subcommittee assignments include Homelessness Planning, Affordable Housing, Climate Action Plan Implementation, and Medical Cannabis. Kate Sears
Marin County Supervisor Kate Sears has represented southern Marin since 2011. She serves on numerous county and regional boards and commissions, including the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District Board, the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority Governing Board, and chairs the Board of MCE
Clean Energy. A key initiative is planning for sea level rise and climate change. Kate serves on the County’s Climate Action Plan Implementation subcommittee, leads the County’s BayWAVE sea level rise vulnerability and adaptation initiative, and in October 2017 launched “DRAWDOWN: Marin” – a campaign to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions community-wide.
A hallmark of Kate’s work in local government is bringing people together to find common ground and develop collaborative, creative, and effective solutions to the issues we face. Her goals include creating healthy and equitable communities, improving public transit options, taking care of our aging community, addressing our housing affordability crisis, enhancing renewable energy, and protecting our environment.
Cameron Evans
Cameron Evans is a senior at the Marin School of Environmental Leadership and is a huge supporter of the environmentalist movement here in Marin County. Cameron worked two years ago to pass the Climate Inheritance Resolution through San Rafael City Council which committed the city to aggressively updating their climate change action plan and to creating a continued system for the youth’s voice to be heard on the matter. Last year, she spoke about her experience with the city at Drawdown: Marin alongside County Supervisors Damon Connelly and Kate Sears. Currently she is an intern at All One Ocean and is beginning her next adventures into the world of conservation of resources and the natural world.
Josh Fryday
Mayor Josh Fryday was elected to the Novato City Council in 2015.
In his professional capacity, he serves as President of Golden State Opportunity, working to provide financial security to low-income working people throughout California. Prior to that, he served as Chief Operating Officer for NextGen Climate, a national organization focused on climate change and clean energy.
Fryday served in the Navy (‘09-‘13) as a member of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG). In Yokosuka, Japan, in addition to his legal duties, he augmented the Navy’s Disaster Relief efforts following the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster. He also worked on detainee cases, and testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on the closing of Guantanamo.
Josh, a native of Novato, is married to Mollye Fryday, an educator; they have three energetic young boys, Shay, Calvin and Tam.
Stephanie Moulton-Peters
Mayor Stephanie Moulton-Peters was elected to the Mill Valley City Council in 2007. She chairs the Transportation Authority of Marin Board of Directors and the Board of the Marin Transit District. She has served on the Board of the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail
Transit (SMART). Stephanie is Vice Chair of the Marin BayWave Project, working with the County and Marin’s cities and towns to address sea level rise along the Bay coastline.
A long time promoter of walking and bicycling as modes of transportation, Stephanie is the Chair of Mill Valley Safe Routes to School Task Force and has actively participated in the renovation of Mill Valley’s historic steps, lanes, and paths. Stephanie also promotes
healthy living through her work with Mill Valley Aware Community Coalition to reduce teen substance abuse, and the Age Friendly Mill Valley initiative for seniors.
Prior to being elected to the City Council, Stephanie was President of the West Blithedale Canyon Neighborhood Association, and chaired the Mill Valley Emergency Preparedness Commission. Professionally, She has worked in the fields of environmental protection
and sustainability, communications, and historic preservation. She has lived in Mill Valley for 25 years with husband Roger and two sons who attended Mill Valley public schools.
